Western Gold Completes Drilling at First Target and Reports High Grade Surface Sampling Results for Caledonian Gold Project

WGLD · Price

Western Gold Exploration Ltd. (WGLD) has completed the first phase of its maiden drilling campaign at the Caledonian Gold Project in Scotland, targeting the Coire a'Ghabhalach (CaG) vein. The company reports high-grade polymetallic intercepts from channel and backpack drilling at CaG, with gold grades ranging up to 12.95 g/t Au, validating the targeting work ahead of diamond drill assay results expected in October 2026. Drilling of four diamond holes (667m total) is complete, and the company has commenced drilling at the second target, Creag Sheileach.

The four diamond drill holes totaling 667m were completed at the Coire a'Ghabhalach (CaG) target. Diamond drill assay results for CaG are expected in October 2026.

Highlights from channel and backpack sampling include:

  • Backpack Drill Hole CGSD-6: 1.4m @ 9.94 g/t Au, 1.25% Zn, 1.61% Pb.
  • Backpack Drill Hole CGSD-9: 1.8m @ 7.53 g/t Au, 1.50% Zn, 1.03% Pb.
  • Backpack Drill Hole CGSD-7: 1.0m @ 12.95 g/t Au, 0.78% Zn, 0.43% Pb.
  • Channel Sample CGCS-1: 2.5m @ 5.18 g/t Au, 0.34% Pb (including 0.6m @ 16.70 g/t Au).
  • Backpack Drill Hole CGSD-8: 1.1m @ 7.01 g/t Au, 0.20% Zn, 1.19% Pb.

Veining at CaG exhibits characteristics analogous to mineralization at the nearby Cononish mine. Mineralization is polymetallic (Au, Ag, Pb, Zn) and structurally complex. Veining and alteration have been traced over a strike length of at least 180m; intercepts remain open at depth and along strike.

All intervals represent length-weighted averages calculated using a 0.5 g/t Au cut-off and a minimum internal dilution threshold of 0.01 g/t Au over 1 metre. Channel samples cut continuous channels across exposed vein faces; backpack drill samples are considered analogous to channel samples. True widths have not been determined in all cases.

Assays were conducted by ALS Global, Ireland. Gold analysis utilized 30 g fire assay with an ICP-MS finish (method Au-AA23), with a detection limit of 0.005 ppm. Multi-element geochemistry involved a four-acid digestion followed by ICP-MS analysis (method ME-MS61L), covering 48 elements. ALS operates under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards. Note: Historical assay results from previous releases have not been consistently checked against certificates, and significant QAQC information is not available for those historical data points.

The Caledonian Gold Project is held through the Glen Lyon Joint Venture between Western Gold Exploration (90% interest, operator) and Acrux Gold (10% interest, owner of Cononish mine).

"The high-grade gold intervals emerging from surface sampling are exactly what we had hoped to see and give us real confidence in the targeting work that's gone into this programme," commented Harry Dobson, Chairman. "We look forward to reporting drill results as they become available."
