Condestable Mine Receives Approval of Modified EIA Paving the Path Forward for Expansion

Rio2 approved the Condestable expansion while Fenix ramp-up lags due to weather delays.

Executive Summary

Rio2 Limited received approval from MEIA on August 21, 2026, concluding a 14-month regulatory process. The approval extends the Condestable mine’s environmentally approved life by a decade and authorizes a throughput increase from 8,400 tpd to 10,000 tpd. A Final Investment Decision is targeted for H2 2026, following ongoing engineering studies.

The company also secured approval for Tailings Storage Facility #6, which features a dry-stack design with an initial capacity of 43M t and is expandable to 170M t. An ore sorting pilot program targeting low-grade stockpiles is scheduled for Q4 2026. Meanwhile, systematic exploration campaigns are ongoing to expand resources and replace reserves, and a surface geophysical survey of the Condestable land package has been completed, with results analysis currently underway.

Material Impact

Rio2 Limited (RIO) received MEIA approval, a critical regulatory milestone that de-risks the Condestable expansion. The approval aligns with prior guidance that expected the outcome in Q3 2026. The market had already priced in the expansion trajectory, with the stock trading in a $2.60–$3.50 range post-earnings. The approval serves as a positive confirmation rather than a surprise, advancing the path to 10ktpd and extending mine life to support long-term NAV, without materially altering near-term cash flows or valuation.
