Defense Munitions Surge Puts Critical Mineral Supply Chains on Notice

Rua reports solid Auld Creek gold grades and widths in paid re-prints without disclosing new assay data.

Executive Summary

Rua Gold Inc. (RUA) released drill results from its Auld Creek project on October 5, 2026, which were subsequently featured in a third-party advertisement by Energy Metal News, a publication owned by Market Equities Limited. The advertisement, disclosed as paid for by Rua Gold and reviewed and approved by the company, framed the geological data within a narrative of rising U.S. defense-munitions demand for systems such as PAC-3 MSE, AMRAAM, and THAAD, alongside a U.S. Geological Survey statistic citing 91% net import reliance for antimony.

The core of the release reiterated drill intercepts previously issued by Rua Gold earlier that same day. Key downhole core lengths, reported without true width or "to" depths, included:

  • ACDDH127: 6.6 m @ 24.9 g/t AuEq (10.5 g/t Au and 6.7% Sb) from 359 m, including 0.3 m @ 43.6 g/t Au and 33.3% Sb.
  • ACDDH123A: 2.2 m @ 34.6 g/t AuEq (10.3 g/t Au and 11.3% Sb) from 228 m.
  • ACDDH123B: 5.0 m @ 7.4 g/t AuEq (4.8 g/t Au and 1.2% Sb) from 236 m.
  • ACDDH130: 6.3 m @ 14.4 g/t AuEq (13.7 g/t Au and 0.3% Sb) from 208 m, including 0.3 m @ 69.2 g/t Au.
  • ACDDH121: 11.7 m @ 5.0 g/t AuEq (4.1 g/t Au and 0.4% Sb) from 365.5 m.

Additional holes detailed in the company’s original release included ACDDH124, which returned 10.4 m @ 1.3 g/t Au and 0.4% Sb from 209.1 m, and ACDDH126, which returned 7.0 m @ 2.1 g/t Au and 0.1% Sb from 228 m.

Regarding operational status, Rua Gold reported that four rigs are currently drilling. The company stated that the Fraternal structure has been drill-confirmed extending more than 1,400 m north and over 500 m in depth, with "repeating shoots at ~40 m intervals." The company noted that inferred-to-indicated resource conversion is greater than 70%. Looking ahead, Rua Gold targeted a Fast-Track permitting application for October 2026, an updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for Q4 2026, and a Preliminary Feasibility Study (PFS) for December 2026. Geotechnical and metallurgical work was reported as largely complete.

Material Impact

Rua Gold Inc. (RUA) released drill results for its Auld Creek project, marking a step in the company’s transition from exploration to development. The company currently holds a maiden resource at Auld Creek of approximately 204,000 ounces of gold equivalent (AuEq), comprising 0.3 million tonnes of indicated material grading 5.67 g/t AuEq for 54,000 ounces, and 1.3 million tonnes of inferred material grading 3.66 g/t for 150,000 ounces. A preliminary economic assessment (PEA) outlines a 5.5-year underground mine producing approximately 27,000 AuEq per year, with a base-case after-tax NPV5% of US$42 million and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 17%. At a gold price of US$4,700, the NPV5% rises to US$113 million with a 36% IRR, based on a capital expenditure of US$132.6 million. No reserves currently exist.

The latest drilling supports resource growth and continuity ahead of the fourth-quarter mineral resource estimate (MRE) and the planned December pre-feasibility study (PFS). The data represents incremental progress on model but does not alter the existing resource, PEA, or net asset value. The Auld Creek asset is considered small, with an equity value of approximately C$150 million broadly reflecting PEA and optionality at spot gold prices, while the Glamorgan project remains as unpriced exploration upside.

The most significant result to date is hole ACDDH127, which recorded 164 g.m AuEq over 6.6 meters, compared to the prior anchor hole’s approximately 82 g.m over 0.6 meters. Two broad intercepts, measuring 6.6 meters and 11.7 meters, represent wider high-grade hits than previously demonstrated, improving the quality of the data set.

These results were part of a broader company release issued on the same morning, meaning the incremental information content of this specific analysis is effectively nil as the market had already seen the numbers hours earlier. The prior best result was ACDDH119, which reported 0.6 meters at 136.2 g/t AuEq on September 8, 2026. That announcement drove the stock from approximately C$1.11 to C$1.47, a gain of roughly 30%, before it faded back to C$1.23 by October 1. The stock currently sits approximately 25% below its March 2026 high of C$1.75 and near the middle of its 52-week range.

Prior-period financial context includes a first-quarter 2026 net loss of C$5.05 million for the three months ended March 31, 2026, with cash holdings of C$35.6 million, working capital of C$36.0 million, and no debt. For the full year 2025, the net loss was C$13.4 million. A C$33 million financing closed in January 2026 at C$1.10 per share, lifting shares outstanding to approximately 115.6 million.

Company Overview

Rua Gold Inc. (TSX: RUA; NZX: RGI; OTCQX: NZAUF; WKN: A40QYC) is a New Zealand-focused explorer and developer operating two primary projects. The company’s flagship asset is the Reefton Goldfield on the South Island, a district-scale package encompassing approximately 120,000 to 125,000 hectares. This package includes the Auld Creek gold-antimony project, which has a resource and a preliminary economic assessment, with a declining underground mine planned. The district also features regional prospects including Fraternal, Supreme, Caledonian, Alexander River, Big River, Capleston, Blackwater, and Globe Progress. Historical district production exceeds 2 million ounces of gold at grades ranging from 9 to 50 grams per tonne.

The second project is Glamorgan, located on the North Island within the Hauraki Goldfield. This ~15,000-hectare undrilled epithermal system sits adjacent to OceanaGold’s Wharekirauponga (WKP) project, which holds 1.5 million ounces of measured and indicated resources at 17.3 grams per tonne. Surface geochemistry and geophysics have defined four gold-arsenic anomalies, each approximately 4 kilometers in size. A ~9,000-meter drill program is targeted to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. There is currently no NI 43-101 resource defined for Glamorgan.

Rua Gold has approximately 115.6 million shares outstanding and ~124.7 million fully diluted shares. The company holds ~C$36 million in cash as of Q1-2026, with unaudited figures showing ~C$30 million as of 30 June 2026. The company has no debt. Management includes CEO and co-founder Robert Eckford, formerly the CFO of Aris Mining; Chairman Oliver Lennox-King; and COO Simon Henderson, a member of the WKP discovery team.

The company’s development model involves building a starter underground mine at Auld Creek and a flexible central processing plant using a hub-and-spoke approach for the Reefton district. Production is targeted for 2028, with permitting handled through New Zealand’s Fast-Track Approvals regime.
