Cat Lake First Nation, Lac Seul First Nation and First Mining Sign Project Agreement for the Development of the Springpole Gold Project

FF · Price

First Mining Gold Corp. has entered into a definitive Springpole Project Consultation and Benefits Agreement with Cat Lake First Nation (CLFN) and Lac Seul First Nation (LSFN). The agreement covers the construction, operation, and closure phases of the Springpole Gold Project in northwestern Ontario, providing certainty for the project's development path following the approval of the federal Environmental Assessment in June 2026.

The agreement is rooted in a community-led Anishinaabe-led Impact Assessment (ALIA) and includes provisions for environmental stewardship, preferential training and employment, business opportunities, and the sharing of financial benefits and equity participation for the First Nations. Key provisions for the First Nations include participation in environmental management and monitoring, implementation of adaptive management strategies, preferential training and employability measures, equity and participation in the economic upside of the Project, promotion of business opportunities during construction and operations, recognition of Anishinaabe culture, and sharing of financial benefits from the Springpole Project.

The agreement was negotiated following a groundbreaking, community-based Anishinaabe-led Impact Assessment (ALIA) process completed in partnership with Lac Seul First Nation.

Russell Wesley, Chief of Cat Lake First Nation, stated: "Developed over more than four years, this agreement is rooted in Anishinaabe teachings and law. It reflects our Anishinaabe-led Impact Assessment that was completed in partnership with Lac Seul First Nation... This Agreement will create meaningful opportunities for our members and youth, strengthen our ability to shape our future, and protect our enduring relationships with the land, water, and all who call this place home."

Clifford Bull, Chief of Lac Seul First Nation, added: "We stand in solidarity with Cat Lake First Nation in signing this Agreement. This milestone reflects years of hard work, cooperation, respect and willingness to share the rich resources within our Traditional Territories... The conditions we built into the Agreement from our ALIA process will ensure that this Project - from beginning to end - will be guided by our laws so that our lands and waters, and all our relations are protected for generations to come."

Dan Wilton, CEO of First Mining, said: "We are very pleased to have reached this Project Agreement with Cat Lake First Nation and Lac Seul First Nation and for the opportunity to have participated in the community-led assessment process that was foundational in the collaborative path forward that has been established."

First Mining also holds a 20% interest in the Pickle Crow Gold Project and a large equity interest in Seva Mining Corp.
