Thunderbird Minerals enters deal for Big Onion option
Thunderbird acquires the Big Onion copper-molybdenum option in British Columbia for $3.2 million in shares.

Thunderbird Minerals Corp. (BIRD) has entered into a definitive share exchange agreement to acquire 100% of TargetCo, a company that holds an exclusive option to acquire a 100% undivided interest in the Big Onion copper-molybdenum property in British Columbia. The transaction consideration consists of 20 million common shares valued at $0.16 per share, totaling $3.2 million.
The Big Onion property comprises 13 mineral claims covering approximately 4,493 hectares in the Babine porphyry belt, underlain by Jurassic volcanic and sedimentary rocks with historical copper-molybdenum mineralization. The property carries a 3.0% Net Smelter Return (NSR) royalty, with reduction rights available.
Remaining obligations to exercise the option include cash payments of $150,000 due in April 2027 and $200,000 due in April 2028. The company must also issue 2,000,000 shares to Deep Core Resources Inc. in four tranches, along with exploration expenditures of $250,000 within 12 months, scaling to $2.0 million within 48 months.
Phase 1 exploration, estimated at approximately $250,000, will focus on data compilation, geophysical surveying, and 3-D modeling. Future drilling is contingent on results and financing. The deal is subject to TSX Venture Exchange approval and carries statutory hold periods and three-year resale restrictions for the vendor shares.
Thunderbird Minerals Corp. (BIRD) has acquired a significant asset in a highly active copper district, a move that aligns with management’s stated strategy of advancing a diversified, year-round exploration program. The acquisition, valued at $3.2 million, represents approximately 50% of the company's post-transaction market capitalization, marking it as a substantial addition relative to the company's size.
The transaction structure is heavily dilutive and carries substantial future cash and equity commitments, which will pressure liquidity and require careful capital allocation. While the announcement validates the company's growth trajectory, it does not provide immediate cash flow or a discovered resource. Consequently, the market typically prices such option acquisitions as incremental portfolio steps rather than immediate catalysts. The technical and fundamental backdrop indicates a company transitioning from a cash-tight position to a more capitalized state, though future funding needs remain a primary focus.
Thunderbird Minerals Corp. (BIRD) is a pre-revenue junior exploration company focused on advancing mineral properties in tier-one North American jurisdictions. The company’s portfolio includes the Bullseye project in Yukon, which targets gold, as well as the Eagle Mountain and Argo properties in British Columbia, which focus on gold and copper. Additionally, the Apache property in California targets copper and molybdenum.
All existing properties are 100% owned and royalty-free. The newly acquired Big Onion property carries a 3.0% NSR royalty. Management, led by CEO John Newell, emphasizes modern geophysics, 3-D modeling, and historical data validation to advance projects to the resource stage. The company operates with a lean cost structure, focusing on targeted fieldwork, permit applications, and potential joint ventures.
