Wesdome Expands High-Grade Zones at Eagle River, Highlighting Growth Potential near Existing Infrastructure

Wesdome’s Eagle River infill drilling returned high-grade intersections, though the small tonnage is insufficient to re-rate the C$3.7 billion producer.

Executive Summary

Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO) has released assay results from its 2026 near-mine exploration and conversion program at the Eagle River mine in Wawa, Ontario. The program included 21 underground drill holes and one previously released deep surface hole, totaling approximately 8,000 meters of drilling. Assay results are capped at 90 g/t Au, and the data will feed into the company’s next reserve and resource update scheduled for the first half of 2027.

Key intercepts reported, based on core length rather than true width, include:

  • 800 Zone / western extension: 26-925-10: 8.3 g/t over 10.6 m (5.9 g/t capped), including 143.0 g/t over 0.5 m (90 capped); 26-925-03: 8.3 g/t over 8.0 m (8.3 capped), including 83.5 g/t over 0.5 m; 26-925-04: 25.4 g/t over 0.4 m; 26-925-11: 32.5 g/t over 0.3 m; 26-805-48: 37.9 g/t over 0.5 m; 26-805-50: 9.0 g/t over 1.5 m; 26-805-49: 12.2 g/t over 1.0 m; 26-1201-36: 13.3 g/t over 2.3 m.
  • 500 Zone: 26-1201-36: 96.2 g/t over 2.2 m (26.2 g/t capped), including 345.0 g/t over 0.6 m (90 capped); 26-1201-34: 23.0 g/t over 0.6 m.
  • 700 Zone (conversion and growth): 26-470-19: 20.2 g/t over 5.7 m (17.0 capped), including 52.9 g/t over 1.6 m; 26-470-14: 21.8 g/t over 3.2 m; 26-470-22: 21.5 g/t over 3.1 m; 26-470-06: 39.8 g/t over 1.0 m; 26-470-18: 22.4 g/t over 1.7 m; 26-470-20: 16.6 g/t over 1.7 m; 26-350-08: 29.0 g/t over 2.1 m; 26-1201-26: 25.6 g/t over 2.0 m; 26-1201-36: 8.9 g/t over 2.0 m.
  • Corridor between 800 and 6 Central (≤10 m from the 805 ramp): 26-805-62: 30.3 g/t over 2.0 m; 26-805-61: 11.9 g/t over 2.1 m.
  • 6 Central (inside resource): 25-805-47: 14.1 g/t over 1.8 m and 12.5 g/t over 2.6 m.
  • Previously released surface hole ERS-2026-001-W1: 9.7 g/t over 2.0 m from 918 m, approximately 200 m below the 800 Zone model.
Material Impact

Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO) is a producer with a C$3.7 billion market capitalization, targeting approximately 185,000 ounces of production in 2025. The company holds 1.4 million ounces of 2P reserves and 1.2 million ounces of inferred resources, supported by an eight-year reserve plan across both mines. Wesdome holds approximately C$377 million in cash and carries no debt. For an equity of this size, drill results are significant only if they impact reserves, mine life, or net asset value.

The 700 Zone growth area measures approximately 200 by 100 meters, though true thickness remains unknown. Assuming a generous 3-meter true width and a density of 2.8 t/m³, the zone contains approximately 168,000 tonnes. At a grade of 15 g/t, this equates to approximately 80,000 ounces of contained, un-mined, un-recovered gold. The 800 western extension and the corridor may add a similar volume. Across all zones in the release, the potential totals between 150,000 and 250,000 ounces, compared to the existing 1.4 million ounces in reserves and 1.2 million ounces in inferred resources. The deposits are located near infrastructure, implying low development capital and rapid conversion potential. No material is currently classified as a resource, with updates expected in the first half of 2027.

The stock peaked at $37.05 on September 22, 2026, following the Kiena East / Shawkey 10 release, which returned 106.5 meters at 3.1 g/t, and the Norbenite Footwall result, which returned 57.2 meters at 7.8 g/t. The share price has since fallen 29% to $26.12, driven by a production miss on October 13. Third-quarter production totaled 41,287 ounces, an 18% year-over-year decline, with Eagle River grade falling 34% year-over-year to 10.1 g/t.

On the directly comparable 800 Zone, the latest release shows an improvement over the June hole. The current result returned 8.3 g/t over 10.6 meters (87 g·m), compared to the previous 9.7 g/t over 2.0 meters (19 g·m). This confirms positive grade across four zones and identifies a credible high-grade growth footprint near existing workings.

Company Overview

Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO) is a Canadian gold producer operating two 100%-owned, high-grade underground mines: Eagle River in Wawa, Ontario, and Kiena in Val-d'Or, Québec.

Eagle River has a permitted mill capacity of 1,200 tpd and is currently running approximately 800 tpd under a "fill-the-mill" strategy. The mine has produced more than 2 moz since 1995 and hosts the 300, 500, 700, 800, 6 Central, Falcon 720/311, and Mishi/Cameron Lake targets. Eagle River holds 2P reserves of 676 koz at 7.3 g/t and inferred resources of 674 koz at 1.7 g/t, the latter dominated by the Mishi open-pit component, which accounts for 523 koz at 1.4 g/t.

Kiena features a permitted capacity of 2,040 tpd and a 930 m shaft. Operations include the Kiena Deep, Presqu'île (a new third mining horizon currently ramping up), and Dubuisson mines, plus the emerging Kiena East / Shawkey 10 corridor. Kiena holds 2P reserves of 711 koz at 8.7 g/t and inferred resources of 525 koz at 5.5 g/t.

Consolidated 2P reserves stand at 5.4 Mt at 7.9 g/t for 1.4 moz (effective Dec 31, 2025; US$1,800/oz). Measured and indicated resources total 365 koz at 6.2 g/t, with inferred resources of 1.2 moz at 2.5 g/t. The company maintains eight-year reserve-based mine plans at both mines through 2033.

Wesdome’s 2026 guidance calls for production of 180,000-205,000 oz at cash costs of US$1,050-1,150/oz and AISC of US$1,525-1,700/oz. The company outlines a growth path to 185,000-230,000 oz by 2028. The company is debt-free with roughly C$377 million cash at Q3 2026. It has paid a $0.1224 annualized dividend since September 2026 and has bought back 7.8 million shares for approximately $190 million at an average of $24.44 since November 2025. Shares outstanding are approximately 143.5 million basic.
