Puma Exploration Announces Kinross Gold Corporation's Ongoing Commitment
Kinross reports barren results from three of seven holes in the Jaguar follow-up program, overshadowing the positive headline from the renewal phase.

The primary development for Puma Exploration Inc. (PUMA) is corporate rather than geological, as Kinross announced plans to fund a third year of work at the Williams Brook Project. Pending board approval, Kinross will maintain its operator role with a minimum work commitment of C$3 million. More than C$5 million has been spent to date, and Kinross can earn a 65% interest by funding at least C$16,750,000 over five years, while Puma retains a 35% carried interest.
Included in the announcement is the substantive technical content from Kinross’ Summer-Fall 2026 programme at the Jaguar Gold Zone (JGZ). The Winter 2026 results, restated and originally released on May 21, 2026, included hole WB26-195, which returned 56.50 m @ 0.45 g/t Au, including 16.0 m @ 1.03 g/t Au.
The Summer-Fall 2026 programme launched on July 26, 2026, comprising seven holes totaling 2,177 m (WB26-199 through 205) to test the JGZ core and step-outs approximately 500 m away. Results for the initial holes include:
- WB26-199: 3.0 m @ 0.40 g/t Au (90.0–93.0 m); 1.0 m @ 0.50 g/t Au (103–104 m); 2.0 m @ 0.25 g/t Au (141–143 m).
- WB26-200: 1.0 m @ 0.24 g/t Au (145–146 m); 3.0 m @ 0.17 g/t Au (159–162 m); 1.0 m @ 2.28 g/t Au (174–175 m).
- WB26-201: 0.5 m @ 0.44 g/t Au (103.5–104 m); 1.0 m @ 0.23 g/t Au (112–113 m); 1.0 m @ 0.20 g/t Au (120–121 m).
- WB26-203: 2.0 m @ 0.36 g/t Au (173–175 m); 1.0 m @ 0.21 g/t Au; 1.0 m @ 0.18 g/t Au; 1.0 m @ 0.12 g/t Au; 1.0 m @ 0.13 g/t Au; 2.0 m @ 0.11 g/t Au; 1.0 m @ 0.17 g/t Au; 1.0 m @ 0.30 g/t Au (down to 467 m).
- WB26-202, WB26-204, WB26-205: No significant intercepts.
Non-drilling activities included three soil grids totaling approximately 2,676 samples with CRM, blanks, and duplicates; 31 test-pit trenches at Jaguar; a 2,920.9 ha drone magnetic survey; and regional prospecting.
Puma Exploration Inc. (PUMA), a pre-revenue micro-cap explorer with a market capitalization of approximately C$22 million, reported results from its Williams Brook and McKenzie projects. The company holds no current resource estimates for either property, and Williams Brook is a non-operated asset managed by Kinross.
The market’s expectation for this release was anchored by the prior Jaguar hole WB26-195, which returned 56.5 meters at 0.45 grams per tonne gold, including 25.4 gram-meters, published on May 21, 2026. This intercept was re-promoted in releases dated August 12, 2026, setting the stage for the follow-up program. Despite the prior announcement, the stock traded at approximately C$0.14 on May 21 and has since declined to roughly C$0.11, near its 52-week low of C$0.10. The lack of a price premium on the earlier data meant the follow-up results were not measured against a heavily priced-in discovery.
The corporate structure surrounding the project did not mitigate the negative data. Kinross’s renewal of its option agreement, which commits C$16.75 million over five years with more than C$5 million already spent, is contingent on board approval and adds no new capital beyond the existing terms. Consequently, the release provided no new positive hard data, presenting the negative findings under the headline of a partner update.
The results remove the near-term hope that the Jaguar zone constitutes a large, coherent, broad gold envelope. While Puma’s wider optionality—including the McKenzie project, the MBM spin-out, and its Canadian Copper holding—remains intact, the Williams Brook "broad system" narrative has suffered a significant setback.
Puma Exploration Inc. (TSXV: PUMA), a project generator and explorer based in Atlantic Canada, operates under its "DEAR" strategy, which encompasses Discovery, Exploration, Acquisition, and Royalties. The company’s portfolio includes the Williams Brook Project, comprising 40,225 hectares across the Williams Brook, Jonpol, and Portage areas. In October 2024, Puma optioned the asset to Kinross, which can earn a 65% interest by spending C$16.75 million over five years, with Puma becoming non-operated in 2026. The project hosts the Lynx, Jaguar, and Lion gold zones.
The McKenzie Gold Project covers approximately 42,053 hectares, though a presentation cited 33,550 hectares. The asset is a 70/30 joint venture with NB Gold and hosts the RIM and Grog gold zones, serving as a drilling lever for Puma. Additionally, the company holds early-stage gold assets at Jacquet River, covering approximately 12,112 hectares, and Caribou East.
Puma owns approximately 70.48% of Murray Brook Minerals (MBM), a figure that has changed from earlier releases citing 84%. MBM holds the Legacy Cu-Ag inferred resource, consisting of 930,000 tonnes at 0.66% copper and 3.65 g/t silver, as well as the Mount McInnes polymetallic asset, which is a potential candidate for a separate listing or spin-out.
The company maintains equity holdings in several entities, including approximately 11.18 million Canadian Copper shares, valued at C$7.7 million based on a price of C$0.69, and 23.95 million Raptor Metals shares, valued at approximately C$0.5 million. Puma also holds 2.7 million BWR shares and a portfolio of NSR royalties. As of the first quarter of 2026, covering the three months ended May 31, 2026, the company held C$1.75 million in cash and reported no revenue.
