Zentek Invited to Present Albany Graphite Purification Results at the 26th International Nuclear Graphite Specialists Meeting
Zentek advances nuclear graphite purification, though a massive capital expenditure gap remains unresolved for the project.

Zentek Ltd. announced that CEO Mohammed (Moe) Jiwan will present bench-scale results on the acid-free purification of Albany Graphite to 5N purity at the 26th International Nuclear Graphite Specialists Meeting (INGSM-26) in Osaka, Japan, on October 22, 2026. The presentation aims to engage the specialist community to determine appropriate specifications and applications for the material, and to identify partners for proper characterization and qualification.
The release highlights growing demand for nuclear graphite, citing IAEA projections of global nuclear capacity growth and recent multi-million dollar supply agreements between X-energy and graphite suppliers Toyo Tanso and SGL Carbon. Technical results confirm purification achieved 99.9992 wt.% carbon (equivalent boron content of 2.60 ppm) and subsequent testing reached a maximum measured purity of 99.99985 wt.% carbon (5N+). Purification was conducted without hydrofluoric acid using a fluidized bed reactor.
Material has not been irradiated or characterized against reference grades; no qualification claim is made. The PEA (announced August 10, 2026) models Albany's 5N product at US$50,000 per tonne, using nuclear-grade synthetic graphite as the price analogue. Micon recommends advancing the project to a Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) to further de-risk engineering, process design, and scale-up efforts.
Zentek Ltd. (ZEN) issued an announcement that serves as a routine follow-up to its August 2026 Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA). The update does not introduce new financial metrics, contracts, or financing arrangements. Instead, the primary purpose is community engagement and specification setting for nuclear and defense buyers, a standard step for critical mineral projects targeting high-specification markets.
The market had already priced in the PEA’s $3.85 billion net present value (NPV) and 27.4% internal rate of return (IRR). This presentation reinforces the technical narrative but does not materially change the capital requirements or timeline to production. No new strategic investors or offtake agreements were announced, as the focus remains on de-risking and qualification, which are pre-commercial milestones.
Zentek Ltd. (TSXV: ZEN | OTCQX: ZTEKF) is a Canadian advanced materials company focused on three core platforms: Albany Graphite, ZenGUARD™, and Triera Biosciences. Its flagship asset is the Albany Graphite Project in Northern Ontario, an exploration-stage, igneous-hosted deposit targeting ultra-high-purity (5N–6N) natural graphite for nuclear, defense, aerospace, and battery markets. The project utilizes a halogen-free thermal purification process via a Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR), avoiding the hydrofluoric acid used in conventional purification. Bench-scale testing has demonstrated 99.9992% carbon purity with an equivalent boron concentration of 2.60 ppm, meeting nuclear-grade specifications.
The August 2026 Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) outlines a 30-year mine life, producing 30,000 tonnes per year of ultra-high-purity graphite, with an after-tax net present value (NPV) of US$3.85 billion at a 5% discount rate and an after-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 27.4%. Permitting is in early stages under Ontario's "One Project, One Process" framework. Environmental and social baseline studies are ongoing in partnership with the Constance Lake First Nation.
