NMG Will Showcase its 13ktpy Becancour Battery Material Plant project at the first-ever Canada Investment Summit in Toronto from September 14th to 15th Targeting a Final Investment Decision in the Upcoming Months

Nouveau Monde Graphite’s Bécancour final investment decision remains unfunded as the company pitches its graphite plant project at a Toronto summit.

Executive Summary

Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc. (NOU) released an operational update on September 14, 2026, clarifying that the announcement is promotional in nature and does not constitute a financing close, final investment decision (FID), earnings report, or new commercial agreement. The company stated it remains on track to reach an FID for its 13,000 tpy Bécancour Battery Material Plant in the upcoming months. To that end, NMG is advancing engineering work, optimizing its capital structure, and accelerating due diligence with stakeholders.

Panasonic Energy holds a binding offtake agreement for 13,000 tpy of active anode material starting in October 2025. The partner has reiterated its intent to potentially make an equity investment at the Bécancour FID, consistent with its initial 2024 investment. Additionally, NMG announced it will participate in the first Canada Investment Summit in Toronto on September 14–15. Organized by the federal government with CPP Investments and PSP Investments, the summit aims to showcase the Bécancour project and attract investment. The company also noted that the Matawinie Mine is under construction, supported by Investissement Québec, the Canada Growth Fund, Eni, Export Development Canada, and the Canada Infrastructure Bank. The release provided no new FID date, financing commitment, offtake change, cost update, or new Panasonic equity commitment.

Material Impact

Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc. (NOU) issued an investor-outreach update regarding the Bécancour project, reiterating management’s previously targeted final investment decision (FID) for the second half of 2026. The company’s language describing the timing as the “upcoming months” does not confirm a specific date or eliminate existing uncertainty.

Panasonic signed a binding offtake agreement in October 2025 and has indicated potential equity support at the Bécancour FID. The Class 3 capital expenditure estimate for the Bécancour plant was previously reported at $374 million in the Q2 2026 update. Meanwhile, the Matawinie mine remains under construction and is fully financed through a $644.5 million package.

The release does not announce a signed equity commitment from Panasonic, a financing package for Bécancour, a firm FID date, or a new offtake agreement. The announcement serves as a reiteration of known plans rather than a new fundamental development.

Company Overview

Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc. (NOU) is a pre-revenue Quebec-based natural graphite developer aiming to build an integrated ore-to-anode-materials operation.

The company’s flagship asset is the Matawinie Mine and Concentrator, Phase 2, an open-pit graphite project located near Saint-Michel-des-Saints, Quebec. The project has a nominal production capacity of approximately 106,000 tpy of graphite concentrate. Construction launched in May 2026 following the Final Investment Decision (FID). The site holds a 25-year mine life, all key permits including the environmental decree, and has secured offtake coverage above 70%.

The Bécancour Battery Material Plant is a 13,000 tpy active anode material facility situated on a fully owned brownfield site approximately 160 km from Matawinie. Feedstock for the plant would come from Matawinie concentrate. It is dedicated primarily to Panasonic Energy under a binding offtake agreement. The Class 3 capital expenditure estimate is $374 million, with an FID originally targeted for the second half of 2026.

Additionally, the company holds the Uatnan Mining Project, a 100% owned optionality project in Northern Québec. A January 2023 Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) targeted up to 500,000 tpy of flake concentrate over 24 years.

Phase 1 demonstration facilities have operated since 2018, producing about 2,000 tpy of anode material and completing product qualification.
