Talon Metals Selects Humboldt Mill as the Processing Location for Tamarack Project

Tamarack shifts to the existing Humboldt Mill, reducing capital expenditure risk while leaving the Department of Energy grant status uncertain.

Executive Summary

Talon Metals Corp. (TLO) has selected its existing Humboldt Mill in Marquette County, Michigan, as the processing location for material from the Tamarack Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Project. Consequently, the company will not advance the previously proposed Beulah Minerals Processing Facility (BMPF) in Mercer County, North Dakota.

The decision follows Talon’s January 2026 acquisition of the Eagle Mine and Humboldt Mill, which gave the company ownership of an operating U.S. nickel-copper processing facility, an experienced workforce, and established technical capability. Talon is currently conducting a feasibility study to evaluate processing Tamarack material at Humboldt, including required material handling and process modifications, with completion expected in Q4 2026. Humboldt is already included as an off-site processing option in the current Minnesota Department of Natural Resources environmental review materials for Tamarack.

Talon holds an existing US$114.8 million DOE funding agreement originally intended to support BMPF development; the company is now working with the DOE on the future of that award. Talon owns 51% of Tamarack, with an earn-in right to 60%, in a joint venture with Rio Tinto.

Material Impact

Talon Metals Corp. (TLO) announced a strategic shift regarding its Tamarack development, moving away from the previously planned BMPF site to utilize the existing Humboldt processing facility. This decision, which was not finalized in the prior MD&A that only referenced evaluating Tamarack processing at Humboldt, materially de-risks the project by leveraging an existing operating facility, workforce, and environmental track record rather than constructing a greenfield processing plant. The move also aligns with Minnesota’s environmental review, as Humboldt is already included as an off-site processing option.

The market reacted strongly to the news, with Talon Metals Corp. stock closing at $11.20 on September 10, 2026, up from $8.34 the prior day, marking a 34.3% one-day gain and a new all-time high. However, a significant offsetting risk remains regarding the US$114.8 million DOE funding agreement, which was tied to BMPF. The release explicitly states that the future of this funding is now under discussion, and losing or being unable to repurpose it would be a significant blow to the Tamarack capital plan.

It remains a strategic processing-location decision with major but unquantified financial implications.
