Northern Graphite Selected to Represent Canada in Battery Materials Evaluation Program with Japan's LIBTEC

Northern Graphite Corporation has been selected by Natural Resources Canada to participate in a strategic Canada-Japan battery materials evaluation program through the Lithium-ion Battery Technology and Evaluation Center. The initiative provides CAD 155,800 in funding support to advance the evaluation and customer qualification of Northern's battery anode materials. Northern is the only battery anode material developer participating in this specific initiative.
Testing will utilize graphite concentrate from the Lac des Iles mine in Quebec, processed through Northern's battery materials technology platform. LIBTEC will benchmark Northern's materials against established industry reference materials under standardized, OEM-relevant conditions in Japan. Key performance metrics to be evaluated include capacity, fast charging, cycle life, and material consistency. The strategic goal is to generate third-party performance data to support qualification with Japanese and global battery manufacturers, diversifying supply chains outside of China. Management views the selection as an important endorsement of the strategy to supply diversified battery anode markets.

Northern Graphite Corporation operates North America's only producing natural graphite mine at Lac des Iles (LDI) in Quebec. The company is executing a "mine-to-battery" strategy, aiming to transition from a raw graphite concentrate supplier to an integrated Battery Anode Material (BAM) producer.
Flagship projects include the Okanjande mine in Namibia, where relocation has been completed and a restart is targeted for late 2027; the Yanbu BAM facility in Saudi Arabia, a joint venture with Obeikan targeting 25,000 tpy for 2028; and a BAM facility in Baie-Comeau, Quebec. The company also holds a technology center in Frankfurt, Germany, focused on BAM innovation, purification, and customer qualification.
