Scandium Canada partners with the University of Windsor to advance electric vehicle traction motor wire trials.

Scandium Canada Ltd. (SCD) has entered into a non-exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Windsor's Center for Hybrid Automotive Research and Green Energy (CHARGE) lab. The collaboration aims to evaluate aluminum-scandium (Al-Sc) alloy wires as traction motor windings for electric vehicles.
Testing will focus on conductor weight, heat resistance, and mechanical performance to improve motor efficiency and vehicle range compared to traditional copper. Scandium Canada will produce and supply Al-Sc alloy wire specifications, while CHARGE will lead electrical simulation, motor segment testing, and benchmarking.
Commercialization of viable outcomes will be handled by Scalium+, the company's wholly-owned downstream alloy subsidiary. The initiative is explicitly independent of the Crater Lake mining project timeline and will seek additional research grant funding.
