Focus Graphite Secures Canadian Patent for Silicon-Enhanced Graphite Battery Anode Technology
Focus Graphite secures a patent grant and converts debt, advancing its downstream battery strategy and strengthening its balance sheet.

Focus Graphite Inc. (FMS) received formal Patent No. 3,209,696 from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for its silicon-enhanced spherical graphite particle technology. The patent, which expires in February 2042, protects the company’s proprietary process and resulting materials. Corresponding applications remain pending in the US, Europe, and South Korea.
The company also completed a related-party transaction approved by the TSX Venture Exchange, issuing 1,670,000 common shares to JJJY Holdings, which is controlled by Chairman Jeff York. The shares were issued at C$0.50 per share, extinguishing the final C$835,000 balance of Mr. York’s shareholder loan. This transaction represented a 42.9% premium to the November 3, 2026 closing price.
Additionally, Focus secured up to C$300,000 in non-dilutive funding through Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) to cover eligible intellectual property costs.
Laboratory coin-cell testing demonstrated reversible capacities of approximately 605 mAh/g using 9% silicon-enhanced graphite. This represents a ~62% improvement over conventional graphite's theoretical capacity of 372 mAh/g.
Focus Graphite Inc. (FMS) has received a patent grant that formalizes intellectual property protection for its downstream battery anode strategy. This development follows the allowance announcement made in January 2026 and does not introduce new commercial terms or offtake agreements.
In August 2026, the company announced the conversion of debt to equity to eliminate the final outstanding balance of the chairman's loan. The transaction has now been completed, aligning management interests and removing a minor liability.
Additionally, funding from IPON provides modest, non-dilutive support for intellectual property maintenance. This support does not materially alter the company's cash position or near-term development timeline.
The news confirms execution on previously disclosed initiatives. It reinforces the company's technological roadmap but does not change financial projections, permitting timelines, or capital requirements.
Focus Graphite Inc. (FMS) is advancing two 100%-owned graphite projects in Quebec, Canada: Lac Knife and Lac Tetepisca.
Lac Knife serves as the company’s flagship high-grade natural flake graphite project, grading 15.4% Cg. A 2023 NI 43-101 Feasibility Study Update outlines a 27-year mine life, approximately 50,000 tonnes of annual concentrate production, and a pre-tax net present value (NPV) of C$500.6 million. The project is currently in the permitting phase, with environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) technical reports nearing completion.
Lac Tetepisca is a large-scale graphite deposit with an updated mineral resource of 120.2 million tonnes of Indicated resources and 24.1 million tonnes of Inferred resources. The company plans to conduct metallurgical optimization and a Preliminary Economic Assessment for the deposit.
In its downstream strategy, Focus Graphite Inc. is pivoting toward value-added processing. This effort leverages a C$14.1 million NRCan-funded electrothermal purification demonstration plant and proprietary battery anode technologies.
