Pecoy Copper Announces C$49.8 Million Strategic Financing Led by Hudbay Minerals
HudBay’s strategic Pecoy investment expands its copper pipeline, while Copper World execution and cost inflation remain the primary valuation drivers.

HudBay Minerals Inc. (HBM) has joined Pecoy Copper Corp. in a C$49.8 million strategic financing round. Hudbay subscribed for C$30.1 million of the new shares at C$2.02 per share, while a separate strategic investor contributed C$19.7 million at the same price. This valuation represents a 10% premium to the 10-day volume-weighted average price (VWAP).
Through the transaction, Hudbay secured an Investor Rights Agreement (IRA) that grants top-up rights to maintain a 9.99% stake and provides one board nomination right. The capital raised will fund exploration, drilling, resource definition, and technical studies at the Pecoy copper-gold project located in southern Peru. The deal serves as a strategic portfolio expansion for HudBay rather than an operational or financial update for its producing assets.
HudBay Minerals Inc. (HBM) has structured the Pecoy financing as a strategic portfolio move that aligns with its stated capital allocation framework and focus on U.S. and Peru copper development. The transaction does not immediately alter HudBay’s financial statements, production profile, or near-term cash flow generation.
The investment provides optionality on a high-potential junior asset and secures board influence, though execution risk remains with the explorer. Given HudBay’s strong balance sheet and recent operational beats, this incremental strategic deployment is expected and telegraphed by management's pipeline development strategy.
