West Red Lake Gold Reports Q3 2026 Production and Continued Operational Momentum at the Madsen Mine
West Red Lake cut guidance by 26% as Madsen produced 3.8 g/t, falling short of the 8.16 g/t reserve estimate.

West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) released an operational update that excludes financial metrics such as revenue, cash costs, AISC, capex, cash balance, and debt. These financial details are scheduled for inclusion in the Q3 statements on November 27, 2026, accompanied by a webcast on November 30.
The company has cut its full-year 2026 production guidance to 27,000–32,000 oz, down from the previous range of 35,000–45,000 oz. This adjustment lowers the midpoint from 40,000 to 29,500 oz, a reduction of 10,500 oz or 26.3%. The low end of the guidance decreased by 22.9% (from 35,000 to 27,000 oz), while the high end fell by 28.9% (from 45,000 to 32,000 oz). West Red Lake attributed the lower output to industry-wide labour challenges affecting the recruitment and retention of skilled underground personnel, as well as the extraction of remnant pillars which proved more challenging than anticipated and carried lower grades.
For the third quarter, West Red Lake produced 7,859 oz, bringing year-to-date production to 22,102 oz. During Q3, the company mined 63,945 t at 3.8 g/t for 7,689 mined oz. The mining rate averaged 710 tpd, with mill throughput at 867 tpd and a recovery rate of 94%. September was the strongest month since the mine’s restart, yielding 3,320 oz.
Infrastructure improvements include the installation and commissioning of a secondary crusher, which supports the mill's ability to process up to 1,000 tpd. This capability claim contrasts with the Q3 actual throughput of 867 tpd. Additionally, the low-grade Q2 surface stockpile was processed in Q3.
The integrated Madsen–Rowan PFS is now expected "in the coming weeks" or "imminently." This timeline represents a slip from the previous guidance for Q3 2026 or H2 2026. As of October 27, the update indicates a delay in the project's completion.
West Red Lake restated its Q2 comparatives, revising ore mined down to 74,604 t from 75,524 t, and grade down to 4.1 g/t from 4.3 g/t. Mined ounces were revised down to 9,805 oz from 10,459 oz, a decrease of 654 oz or 6.3%. A minor data anomaly appears in the Q1 2026 column, where both "average mining rate" and "average mill throughput" are listed identically as 572 tpd, suggesting a transcription error in the source table.
CEO commentary highlighted "operational momentum" and the "highest monthly gold production since restarting the Mine." The 26% guidance cut appears at the bottom of the release under the heading "2026 Outlook," following the positive commentary.
West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) has issued a revised production guidance that removes approximately 10,500 ounces per year from its midpoint estimate. Based on a realized price of roughly US$4,300 per ounce—derived from Q2 revenue of C$49.0 million on 8,260 ounces, implying a price of ~US$4,287/oz—the reduction equates to approximately US$45 million, or C$62 million in annualized revenue. This figure represents roughly 22% of the company’s C$285.6 million market capitalization and is close to the entirety of a year’s free cash flow.
The production cut is concentrated in the fourth quarter. Prior to the revision, the midpoint implied Q4 production of approximately 17,900 ounces; the revised midpoint implies approximately 7,400 ounces, cutting Q4 expectations by roughly 59%. The new top end of 9,898 ounces requires sustaining September’s production rate of 3,320 ounces per month for three consecutive months. This marks the second downward revision in six months, moving from a November 2025 framing of approximately 50,000 ounces per year, to 35,000–45,000 ounces in April 2026, and to the current 27,000–32,000 ounce range.
The company attributed the shortfall partly to labor availability, which plausibly explains the 710 tonnes per day (tpd) mining rate. However, this factor does not explain the grade decline. The Q3 mined grade of 3.8 grams per tonne (g/t) is significantly below the approximately 4.5 g/t head grade required to hit even the low end of the previous guidance at 800 tpd. This discrepancy indicates a mine-plan and reserve-model issue rather than a broad industry-wide problem.
Cost guidance is now at risk due to the lower production volumes. Using Q2’s cost structure as a proxy—cash costs of US$2,000/oz, sustaining capital expenditure of C$12.3 million (approximately US$8.9 million), plus approximately US$1.7 million in corporate and other expenses—Q4 production at the low end of 4,898 ounces would result in an All-In Sustaining Cost (AISC) of roughly US$4,160/oz. This is approximately 16% above the top of the US$2,800–3,600 guidance range. At the top end of 9,898 ounces, the AISC would be roughly US$3,070/oz, which falls within the guidance range. Consequently, the AISC guidance holds only if Q4 production lands near the high end. The company provided no specific cost data in the release.
Several factors mitigate the severity of the downgrade. The company disclosed no impairment, covenant breach, management changes, dividend cuts, or new financing announcements. September’s production of 3,320 ounces demonstrates that the asset remains operational. The revised guidance appears achievable rather than aggressive; producing 29,500 ounces at 867 tpd requires a head grade of only approximately 3.1 g/t, which is below both Q2 and Q3 actuals. This reset of expectations makes a further cut less likely.
Market positioning reflects some prior weakness, with the stock down 23% since the Q2 print (falling from C$0.90 on August 25 to C$0.69) and 51% from the February double top at C$1.40. However, the formal 26% cut and second revision suggest the market has not fully priced in the magnitude of the change.
West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (TSXV: WRLG, OTCQX: WRLGF, FRA: UJO) is a Canadian gold producer operating in the Red Lake district of northwestern Ontario, a Tier-1 mining jurisdiction that has historically produced over 20 million ounces. The company’s flagship asset is the 100%-owned Madsen Mine, which it acquired in June 2023 and declared commercial production on January 1, 2026. The property has a historical production record of approximately 2.5 million ounces.
The Madsen mill is 100% owned and fully permitted, with a permitted throughput of 800 tonnes per day (tpd) and a nameplate capacity of approximately 1,100 tpd. A secondary crusher was commissioned in the third quarter of 2026 to support operations up to 1,000 tpd. The Madsen shaft is undergoing a phased refurbishment. Phase 1, providing approximately 200 tpd, was completed in August 2026. Phase 2, targeting approximately 700 tpd, is scheduled for the second half of 2027, while Phase 3, targeting approximately 2,000 tpd and reaching Level 17, is targeted for the second half of 2028.
Mining operations encompass multiple complexes, including Austin, South Austin (including the 4447 area), North Austin, McVeigh, 8 Zone, the 904 Complex, Fork, Derlak, Russet, Wedge, Upper 8, and North Shore. The 904 Complex, an unmined panel measuring approximately 200m by 200m, is targeted for the first half of 2027. The Fork deposit, located approximately 250m southwest of Madsen, is targeting the 2027 production profile.
The company also holds the 31 km² Rowan Property, which includes the past-producing Rowan, Mount Jamie, and Red Summit mines. A preliminary economic assessment for Rowan contemplates a approximately 400 tpd underground operation producing approximately 35,000 ounces per year at approximately 8 g/t diluted over approximately five years. Ore would be toll-milled at Madsen, requiring no new mill or tailings facility. Advanced-exploration permitting for Rowan is targeted for 2027, with production targeted for 2028–2029.
Starratt-Olsen, the second-largest historical producer on the Madsen property, yielded approximately 164,000 ounces at 6.17 g/t between 1948 and 1956. The company completed its first modern drill programme at Starratt-Olsen in 2026, which included intercepts such as 1.5m @ 16.16 g/t.
The company’s land package consists of 47 km² at Madsen and 31 km² at Rowan, all 100% owned. Leadership includes President and CEO Shane Williams, VP Exploration and Qualified Person Will Robinson, VP Operations and Qualified Person Hayley Halsall-Whitney, and CFO Harpreet Dhaliwal. Mine-level leadership was hired in 2025 from Wesdome (Kiena), Newmont (Porcupine, Borden), and Nyrstar. The board of directors includes Executive Chairman Tom Meredith, Duncan Middlemiss, Susan Neale, John Heslop, and Shane Williams.
VanEck Junior Gold Miners (GDXJ) included West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. in its fund effective March 20, 2026.
