Avrupa Minerals Applies for Exploration Reservation Covering Historic Ruostesuo Mine, Pyhasalmi Mining District, Finland
Avrupa adds the historic Ruostesuo mine to its Finnish copper-zinc portfolio.

Avrupa Minerals Ltd. (TSXV: AVU) has filed an exploration reservation application for the historic Ruostesuo Mine area in the Vihanti-Pyhäsalmi Mining District of central Finland. The application covers the past-producing zinc-copper massive sulfide deposit, known extensions, and a large area of untested geological and geophysical anomalism.
The reservation is held by Akkerman Finland Oy (AFOy), a partnership where Avrupa holds a 49% interest and Akkerman Exploration BV holds 51%. The addition brings the total number of mineralized target areas in the Finnish portfolio to nine. Management is actively seeking a joint venture partner to fund and drive forward exploration at this new target.
Historical context indicates Outokumpu mined ~265,000 tonnes of ore in 1988-89, but previous drilling was shallow (<250m), leaving significant depth and hinge-zone potential untested.
Avrupa Minerals Ltd. (AVU) has announced a routine expansion of its land package within a well-established mining district. The announcement does not include new drill results, resource estimates, or financing commitments. The strategic move aligns with the company’s stated “project generator” model, which involves accumulating permits and seeking joint venture partners to fund advanced exploration. No immediate impact on the stock price is expected, as the market has already priced in the accumulation of permits and the search for partners over the past 12 months.
Avrupa Minerals Ltd. (AVU) operates as a European-focused project generator and explorer. Its flagship asset is the Sesmarias copper-zinc volcanogenic massive sulfide deposit located in Portugal’s Iberian Pyrite Belt. The company also manages a Finnish portfolio, advancing seven copper-zinc VMS prospects and one gold prospect via AFOy, all situated within trucking distance of the active Pyhäsalmi mill. Additionally, the company holds a 49% interest in the Slivova gold project in Kosovo, which is currently on hold pending license re-issuance.
In July 2026, the company filed an NI 43-101 technical report defining an initial Inferred Mineral Resource at Sesmarias of 6.5 million tonnes at 2.9% Zn, 1.2% Pb, 0.6% Cu, and 35 g/t Ag, based on a 6.2% ZnEq cut-off of 4.0%.
