Electra Signs Term Sheet for Strategic Partnership with Global Commodities Trader WMC

Electra Battery Materials secured a working capital and marketing facility to support the ramp-up of its Ontario cobalt refinery operations.

Executive Summary

Electra Battery Materials Corporation (ELBM) has signed a non-binding term sheet with WMC Group AG for a five-year working-capital and commercial partnership. Under the agreement, WMC will provide logistics management, cobalt market expertise, and access to its global commercial network. WMC will act as the buyer and exclusive marketing agent for Electra’s cobalt sulfate production, complementing the existing offtake agreement with LG Energy Solution. Additionally, WMC has committed to making an investment in Electra upon the execution of definitive agreements. The partnership directly addresses working capital needs for feedstock purchases, logistics, and product qualification as the Ontario refinery transitions from construction to operations.

Material Impact

Electra Battery Materials Corporation has entered into a term sheet for a Working Capital Management (WMC) agreement, a move that aligns with the company’s stated objective to secure working capital and commercial pathways ahead of production. The arrangement provides feedstock financing and a dedicated marketing channel, de-risking the commercialization phase. However, the commitment remains non-binding until definitive agreements are executed and customary conditions are met.

The development does not alter the fundamental project timeline or the approved $73 million construction budget. Mechanical completion is still scheduled for the second quarter of 2027, with commercial production targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027. The deal represents an incremental step in the company’s value proposition rather than a fundamental shift in its risk profile.
