Sigma Lithium Corporation (SGML) confirmed that mining and industrial operations at its Grota do Cirilo facility in Brazil are continuing normally, addressing recent media reports regarding a preliminary judicial ruling from the Teofilo Otoni courts. Located more than 300km away, the courts allegedly issued an order suspending environmental licenses. Management stated that the ruling was issued during a judicial recess without due process and that the company has not received any formal legal communication.
Sigma vehemently denied that the ruling affects its recently signed TAC Agreement with Minas Gerais state authorities. Legal defense is scheduled to commence on September 8, 2026, when courts resume operations. While the company noted a potential daily fine clause, it clarified that this would only trigger if a final negative ruling is issued after years of appeals, with no payments currently due.
Production guidance remains unchanged, with targets of 240,000 tonnes of lithium oxide concentrate within 12 months and 330,000 tonnes in FY 2027. Management highlighted the "Quintuple Zero Lithium" credentials and reiterated expansion targets, aiming for Phase 2 to reach 580,000 tonnes and Phase 3 to reach 830,000 tonnes annually. The company also noted the political context, with Brazil's November 15 general election approaching and Minas Gerais serving as a key battleground.
