ADDITIONAL INVESTMENT IN CANADA NICKEL COMPANY INC. BY AVENIR MINERALS LIMITED
Agnico Eagle’s small stake in Canada Nickel reinforces its strategic junior exploration portfolio.

Avenir Minerals Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, has completed a non-brokered private placement. As part of the transaction, Avenir acquired 666,667 units of Canada Nickel Company Inc. for a total consideration of C$1,000,000.50. This acquisition increases Avenir's beneficial ownership in Canada Nickel to approximately 8.68% on a non-diluted basis and 11.52% on a partially-diluted basis.
Each unit consists of one common share and one-half of a common share purchase warrant. The warrants are exercisable at C$2.25 per share for a period of 36 months. The transaction aligns with Agnico Eagle's strategy to acquire strategic positions in high-potential geological opportunities. Additionally, an investor rights agreement grants Avenir participation in equity offerings and board nomination rights, though these rights are not currently exercised.
Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (AEM) announced a C$1 million investment, a figure that remains immaterial against its $3.46 billion cash balance and $1.33 billion in quarterly free cash flow. The transaction provides optionality in the nickel and copper sectors, diversifying exposure beyond gold. An investor rights agreement secures top-up rights and board influence, consistent with Agnico’s strategy for its junior portfolio.
The stock’s recent decline from its March peak to July lows was driven by the Barnat pit rock mass movement and the subsequent guidance cut, rather than this transaction. The subsequent bounce to $285.54 reflects a technical rebound and short-covering.
Agnico Eagle Mines Limited is a senior gold producer with operations across Canada, Mexico, Finland, and Australia. Its flagship producing assets include Canadian Malartic, Detour Lake, LaRonde, Fosterville, Meadowbank, Meliadine, Macassa, and Kittila.
The company’s growth pipeline features Hope Bay in Nunavut, Upper Beaver in Ontario, Detour Lake Underground, and San Nicolás, a 50% joint venture with Teck in Mexico. In Finland, Agnico Eagle is consolidating its regional presence by acquiring Rupert Resources, Aurion Resources, and B2Gold's Fingold interest to create a multi-asset, multi-decade platform in the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt.
