Great Atlantic Begins 2026 Prospecting Program at the South Quarry Tungsten Property and Plans Six Excavator Trenches
Great Atlantic approved South Quarry trenching as a $179 cash runway necessitates an immediate capital raise.

Great Atlantic Resources Corp. has announced the start of its 2026 prospecting and rock geochemical sampling program at the South Quarry Tungsten Property in central Newfoundland. The company secured Exploration Approval from the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Energy and Mines to construct up to six excavator trenches and new access trails in the northern region of the property.
Trenching is scheduled to begin in early September 2026, with operations targeting historical tungsten (scheelite) mineralization. Rock samples are currently being submitted for multi-element analysis, including tungsten and gold. The property contains historical tungsten-bearing veins documented by Kidd Creek Mines and Falconbridge Limited, and Great Atlantic has confirmed the presence of tungsten-bearing veins since 2015. Tungsten is identified as a strategic critical metal with high demand in the defense and aerospace sectors, while supply remains concentrated in China.
Great Atlantic Resources Corp. (GR) has received approval for six trenches, a move that aligns with its stated 2026 exploration plan for its tungsten assets. The market likely already priced in the 2026 field program announcements made earlier in the year.
The company’s primary focus remains on advancing the Golden Promise gold project and Pilley's Island base metal project, while the South Quarry program serves as a secondary exploration activity. Given the company's severe cash position of $179, any exploration activity is heavily dependent on future capital raises, which introduces dilution risk.
Great Atlantic Resources Corp. is an exploration and development company focused on mineral assets in Atlantic Canada, specifically Newfoundland and New Brunswick. Its flagship project is the Golden Promise Gold Property in central Newfoundland, which hosts an inferred resource of 357,500 tonnes at 10.4 g/t gold, equating to approximately 119,900 ounces. The company is currently advancing a bulk-sampling program utilizing Novamera Inc.'s Surgical Mining technology.
Other key assets include Pilley's Island, which has been optioned to HM Exploration and targets VMS copper-zinc-lead-silver-gold deposits, as well as South Quarry and Nashwaak Lake for tungsten. The company also holds interests in Glenelg, targeting gold-antimony-vanadium, and Keymet, which focuses on silver-base metals. Great Atlantic Resources operates under a project generation model, seeking partners to advance assets while retaining royalties.
