Primary Hydrogen Enters Nova Scotia's Cumberland Basin Natural Hydrogen District with Staking of the Northumberland Project
Primary Hydrogen adds a new staking claim in Nova Scotia’s hydrogen basin to its portfolio, remaining in the pre-drill phase.

Primary Hydrogen Corp. staked the Northumberland Natural Hydrogen Project in Nova Scotia on August 17, 2026. The project covers 72 claims, totaling approximately 1,166 hectares, along the northern margin of the Cumberland Basin. It adjoins the land package of Kavenex Energy and Koloma Inc., positioning Primary Hydrogen in one of North America's most active natural hydrogen exploration districts.
Initial work programs include data compilation, structural interpretation, and a soil-gas orientation survey. No drilling has occurred on the project to date. The announcement follows a clear historical progression of the company expanding its footprint in the Cumberland Basin, where competitors like Quebec Innovative Materials Corp. and First Atlas Resources have reported strong hydrogen readings. Qualified Person Christopher Michael Longton reviewed the technical information. He is an officer of the company and not independent for NI 43-101 purposes.
Primary Hydrogen Corp. (HDRO) announced the Cumberland Basin acquisition, a move that represents an expected, incremental step in the company's exploration strategy rather than a market-moving event. While the Cumberland Basin is gaining attention, the Northumberland project remains in the earliest exploration phase. The lack of drilling and reliance on soil-gas surveys means there is no near-term financial or operational impact from this activity.
The company’s cash position of $1.48 million, combined with a recent $1.47 million financing, fully funds current programs. However, this acquisition does not alter the capital requirements or timeline for commercial discovery.
Primary Hydrogen Corp. (HDRO) is a grassroots exploration company focused on natural hydrogen and rare earth elements (REEs) across Canada and the United States. Its flagship projects include the Wicheeda North REE project, which holds a 75% option in British Columbia, and a portfolio of natural hydrogen properties in Ontario, Newfoundland & Labrador, British Columbia, Colorado, and Nova Scotia. All projects are in early-stage exploration, and no mineral resources, reserves, or economic studies have been reported. The company relies on equity financing to fund operations and exploration activities.
