Nord Initiates MECP Pre-Submission Consultation for Gowganda Silver Tailings Recovery Program
Nord Precious advances its low-capex silver production path as Ontario tailings permit consultation moves forward.

Nord Precious Metals Mining Inc. (NTH) has initiated pre-submission consultations with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regarding its Gowganda Silver Tailings Recovery Program. To support a Mineral Recovery Permit application under Ontario Regulation 463/24, the company has consolidated technical and government-relations capabilities, including mining lease acquisitions and access to TTL Laboratories.
The MECP has outlined specific submission requirements for the application, which include a project description, site plan, preliminary water balance, baseline characterization, and Indigenous consultation records. The Ontario Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has indicated an approximately 80-day review pathway for a complete application.
The first phase of the program involves on-site physical separation of historical silver-cobalt tailings via modular gravity concentration. This process aims to produce a silver-bearing concentrate and cleaned tailings for engineered backfill.
Concurrently, a fully funded 5,000-metre drilling phase is underway at Castle East within a planned 30,000-metre program. Historical tailings estimates of approximately 1.94 million tonnes at 47.5 g/t Ag are noted as historical only and are not classified as current NI 43-101 resources.
Nord Precious Metals Mining Inc. (NTH) announced a standard regulatory step in its strategy to secure a Recovery Permit for its tailings reprocessing project. This development aligns with previous announcements regarding the 80-day permitting pathway and the retention of engineering and consulting partners. The news does not introduce new financial metrics, production guarantees, or unexpected catalysts, but rather confirms the company is executing on a previously disclosed regulatory timeline. Given the company's explicit going concern warning and working capital deficit, the market will likely view this as incremental progress rather than a fundamental valuation driver until actual permit approval or production cash flow is realized.
Nord Precious Metals Mining Inc. (NTH) operates in Ontario's historic Cobalt and Gowganda silver-cobalt camps. The company’s flagship project is the Gowganda Silver Tailings Recovery Program, which aims to reprocess approximately 1.94 million tonnes of historical tailings grading 47.5 g/t Ag using a modular gravity concentration plant and TTL Laboratories.
The company’s exploration portfolio includes the Castle East property, featuring a historical inferred resource of 7.56 million ounces of silver at 8,582 g/t Ag, along with gold targets situated along the Ridout-Tyrrell Corridor. Nord Precious Metals is pursuing a strategy of low-capex, near-term production from surface tailings to fund district-scale exploration and critical mineral recovery, including cobalt, copper, and nickel.
