Capstone Copper Publishes 2025 Sustainability Report

Capstone Copper Corp. announced the publication of its 2025 Sustainability Report, prepared in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, GRI 14: Mining Sector 2024, and the SASB Metals & Mining Sustainability Accounting Standard. The report highlights progress across five priority areas: Climate, Water, Tailings, Biodiversity, and Communities, including safety improvements and full participation in The Copper Mark Assurance Process.
Key operational metrics for 2025 include a 22% reduction in recordable injuries, an 80% conformance rate with the Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management (GISTM), and a 20% increase in workforce size to 8,152 employees.
Safety performance saw significant improvements, with recordable injuries reduced by approximately 22% year-over-year. The Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) improved to 0.23, down from 0.48 in 2024, while the Total Reportable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) improved to 0.69, down from 0.91 in 2024. This marks the first year of consistent leading indicators, including greater than 90% HSE training completion and greater than 75% Visible Felt Leadership program achievement.
In terms of environmental metrics, total energy use increased by 14% due to higher copper concentrate production. However, the renewable energy percentage improved to 24%, up from 21% in 2024, driven by I-REC certified electricity for Mantoverde and Mantos Blancos. Market-based GHG emissions from fuel and power were reduced by 7% versus the 2021 baseline, and intensity declined by 13% year-over-year per tonne of copper produced.
Water management data showed that low-quality water withdrawals increased to 87% of total withdrawals. Freshwater use intensity per tonne of ore processed increased by 30% versus the 2021 baseline due to ore mineralogy changes. Regarding tailings, the company achieved 80% conformance with GISTM company-wide, up from 48% in 2024, with a target of 100% by 2028.
Social and governance updates indicate that the combined workforce increased by 20% to 8,152 employees, up from 6,806 in 2024, primarily due to growth in Chilean operations and the initiation of the Santo Domingo project. The proportion of women employees increased to 12%, up from 10% in 2024, while the global employee turnover rate decreased to 12%, down from 15% in 2024.
Assurance activities included Pinto Valley receiving The Copper Mark award in 2025, while Mantos Blancos and Mantoverde continued their assurance cycles. Cozamin commenced the assurance process. Additionally, the company launched Capstone-wide Biodiversity and Social Performance Standards and advanced water stewardship through a Water Management Standard.
Cashel Meagher, President and CEO, stated: “I am pleased to share Capstone Copper’s 2025 Sustainability Report, which reflects how we continued to embed our Sustainable Development Strategy throughout our business. 2025 was a year of meaningful progress made possible by our team and guided by our commitment to being prudent in thought and reliable in action. We continued to build a culture grounded in safety, accountability and disciplined execution, all while delivering production growth to meet the increasing demand for copper, the key metal for electrification.”
