LibertyStream Provides Commercial Update
Libertystream Infrastructure Partners’ Endurance deal slips to November 14 amid non-binding 9,100 tpa 2028 demand.

Libertystream Infrastructure Partners Inc. (LIB) issued an operational and commercial update that contains no new financial statements or production-and-sales tables. The release highlights three key developments regarding its Freedom Launchpad facility in Texas.
Since May 2026, the company has extracted and refined lithium carbonate at the facility, operating what it describes as the "full Freedom 1 process flow." Certificates of analysis issued between May 14 and August 14, 2026, reported product purity of at least 99.7%. This information mirrors the disclosure made on August 24, 2026, and does not constitute new data.
The company is in discussions with seven prospective customers across the glass, ceramics, welding, cathode manufacturing, EV, energy storage, and U.S. defense sectors. These talks indicate a potential demand of 9,100 tonnes per annum (tpa) in 2028, which includes a 600 tpa signed offtake agreement. The company notes potential growth to up to 20,000 tpa. However, it explicitly states that these discussions range from requests for proposals to the negotiation of definitive documentation, are non-binding, and do not represent contracted sales. Product has been delivered for evaluation to a U.S. battery manufacturer serving defense customers and to the University of North Dakota for military drone battery research.
Regarding financing and schedule, exclusivity under a non-binding term sheet with Endurance Finance Partners for up to US$95 million has been extended to November 14, 2026. Construction of Freedom 1 is underway, and all major process equipment has been purchased. First commercial deliveries under the 600 tpa offtake are currently targeted to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
The breakdown of demand sources reveals that of the 9,100 tpa figure, only 600 tpa (approximately 6.6%) is contracted, while a further 3,000 tpa is in the stage of negotiating definitive documents. The remainder consists of term sheet negotiations, memorandums of understanding, or submitted requests for proposals. Additionally, the release states that the 2028 estimate aggregates volumes from six counterparties, whereas the headline references seven prospective customers, creating an inconsistency in the numbers. The 20,000 tpa figure is defined in an "Additional Information" footnote as relating to a broader group of counterparties, including existing customers and prospects who have validated specifications and advanced to sample shipment, term sheet negotiation, or RFP stages, rather than representing upside on the same six counterparties.
Libertystream Infrastructure Partners Inc. (ticker LIB) has provided an update on its operational progress and financing status, revealing a delay in a key financing deal and a shift in its production timeline. The company’s recent announcements include a specific demand quantification for 2028, details regarding a defense-sector evaluation, and a target for first commercial deliveries in the second quarter of 2027.
The company’s progression against its own record shows a series of milestones from late 2025 through mid-2026. On December 1, 2025, Libertystream produced its first lithium carbonate batch and set three near-term objectives: independent validation, consistent spec-compliant production, and customer qualification. By January 6, 2026, the first two objectives were declared complete, and the third, involving customer qualification and bulk samples, began. On February 9, 2026, the company signed a definitive agreement with Select Water Solutions, targeting Stage 1 (1,000 tpa) commissioning for December 2026, Stage 2 by June 2027, and Stage 3 from July 2027.
Subsequent developments included the installation at Select and the commencement of production ahead of schedule between March 12 and April 9, 2026, with the first tonne pre-sold for June 2026 delivery. The first tonne was delivered on June 3, 2026. On June 8, 2026, an offtake term sheet was issued for 600 tpa starting in 2027, with an all-in operating cost estimate of approximately US$6,200/t for a 1,000 tpa facility. At that time, the company stated a demand pipeline in excess of 10,000 tonnes per annum through 2029.
On July 6–9, 2026, the Gen 6 system was commissioned, and the offtake was converted to a definitive agreement for 600 tpa, involving quarterly shipments of 150 tonnes from 2027 with pricing fixed for two years. By August 24, 2026, the company reported three months of production with purity of at least 99.7%, having produced approximately 3 tonnes in total for seven customer organizations.
Financing efforts included a term sheet announced on September 3, 2026, for up to US$95 million at 12.25% interest with a five-year maturity and warrants up to 10% of the initial US$45 million facility, with definitive agreements targeted within 45 days. However, on September 21, 2026, the company announced C$15 million of 12% senior secured notes to Pathfinder plus 3,061,224 bonus shares (representing 20% of the principal at C$0.98). Notably, no announcement was made regarding the Endurance definitive agreements, which were due around October 18.
The latest release, dated October 16, 2026, quantifies demand at 9,100 tpa for 2028, a figure down from the "in excess of 10,000 tpa through 2029" framing presented in June. The company now targets first commercial deliveries to begin in the second quarter of 2027 and has extended Endurance exclusivity to November 14, 2026. The Endurance term sheet has not converted to definitive agreements, and the extension indicates the financing was not signed on the original timetable.
The production schedule has also shifted. In February 2026, the company targeted Freedom 1 commissioning by December 2026, a date it reconfirmed in July 2026. The current release does not reconfirm the December 2026 commissioning date, substituting it with a target for first commercial deliveries in Q2 2027. This shift implies a slip from the original framework, which implied Q1 2027 for a full four-shipment year, and leaves the December 2026 commissioning promise unmentioned.
Regarding scale, Freedom 1 and Freedom 2 are each designed for up to 1,000 tpa, totaling 2,000 tpa. This capacity represents approximately 22% of the 9,100 tpa 2028 demand figure. The company concedes that realizing the 9,100 tpa target would depend on successfully constructing, commissioning, and operating significant additional production capacity beyond Freedom 1 and Freedom 2. Prior-period context from the MD&A, not disclosed in today’s release, places the estimated total capital investment for the first 1,000 tpa facility at approximately US$37 million. Seven further facilities beyond Freedom 2 would imply roughly US$260 million of incremental capital, assuming unit costs remain constant, though the company has not disclosed a replication cost curve. The 20,000 tpa figure would require on the order of US$650–700 million of capacity spending. These figures are presented as potential growth without any capital-plan caveat.
The company remains pre-revenue. For FY2025, the net loss was US$15.92 million. In Q1 2026, the net loss was US$1.43 million, flattered by a US$6.62 million non-cash fair value gain on warrant liabilities. Q1 2026 operating cash burn was US$4.76 million. Libertystream had US$7.15 million of cash at March 31, 2026, and carries a going-concern flag. The stock closed at C$0.72 on the day of the release, down from C$1.04 on September 22.
LibertyStream Infrastructure Partners Inc. (TSXV: LIB, OTCQB: VLTLF, FSE: I2D) describes itself as a lithium development and technology company aiming to become one of North America's first commercial producers of lithium carbonate from oilfield brine. The company utilizes a proprietary Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) platform integrated into existing oil and gas water-handling infrastructure to reduce capital costs and execution risk. LibertyStream re-domiciled from Canada to Texas effective April 17, 2026, following shareholder approval on March 31, 2026, and maintains its corporate head office in Dallas.
The company’s flagship initiative is the "Freedom" platform located in the Midland Basin, Texas, which consists of several key components:
- Freedom Launchpad (demonstration/qualification): Located at Select Water Solutions' facility in Howard County, north of Midland, this site houses a Gen 5 DLE field unit designed to process up to 10,000 barrels of brine per day and a refining unit with a capacity of up to 10 tonnes per annum of lithium carbonate. A Gen 6 configuration was commissioned in July 2026, described as a fully automated continuous-flow system with a cycle time reduced to approximately 20 minutes from about 60 minutes, and media degradation cut to under 5% from 10%. While the Gen 5 unit was designed for up to 10,000 barrels per day, the Gen 6 unit is described as designed around a 5,000-barrel-per-day processing basis. Commercial scale-up is expected to rely on the same architecture with larger carousels and additional extraction modules, though this has not yet been demonstrated through the Gen 6 unit.
- Freedom 1: The first commercial-scale facility, with a 1,000 tpa design, is under construction at Select's Howard County site. All major process equipment has been purchased, with first commercial deliveries targeted for Q2 2027. The previously stated December 2026 commissioning date is not reconfirmed in this release.
- Freedom 2: The second 1,000 tpa facility was originally targeted for commissioning on or before June 2027 under the Select agreement.
- Stage 3 and beyond: At least two additional facilities are planned at Select sites across Howard, Martin, Midland, Upton, and Glasscock counties, historically framed as beginning in July 2027.
The strategic rationale for these projects rests on the relationship with Select Water Solutions, which provides water treatment expertise, pipeline infrastructure, and produced-water pretreatment. This partnership removes a major pretreatment step, thereby lowering capital and operating costs for LibertyStream.
