BTU 2025 Highlights and Drilling Plans for Three Projects in 2026
Kinross Continues Earn-in as BTU Metals Pivots to 2026 Drilling Campaign Following Narrow High-Grade Hits

The news release dated January 14, 2026, provides a summary of the 2025 exploration activities and the outlook for 2026. Key highlights include the completion of an 8,200-meter drill program by partner Kinross Gold at the Dixie Halo project. One hole (BTU-25-001) intersected visible gold, returning 2.65 g/t Au over a narrow 0.75m interval. While other holes showed only anomalous gold (0.25 to 1.0 g/t), the results were sufficient for Kinross to commit to spending an additional $2,000,000 to continue earning its 70% interest. For 2026, BTU plans its own drilling at the recently acquired Dixie East project and the Hubcap project near Wawa, Ontario.
The news is a net positive but falls into the "Routine" category. The presence of visible gold is a positive geological indicator, but a 0.75m intercept is very narrow and lacks the "game-changer" width required to re-rate a junior explorer significantly. The most material aspect is Kinross's decision to proceed with further expenditures; this validates the project's potential in the eyes of a major producer and secures funding for the flagship asset without further diluting BTU shareholders for that specific project. However, BTU’s intention to drill Dixie East and Hubcap means the company will likely need to raise more capital soon, as exploration costs for independent drilling will quickly deplete their current cash reserves.
BTU Metals is a Canadian junior explorer focused on gold properties in Ontario. Its flagship project is the Dixie Halo property, which surrounds the Great Bear Dixie deposit (owned by Kinross). The Dixie Halo project is currently under an option agreement where Kinross can earn a 70% interest. The company also holds a 100% interest in the Dixie East project (acquired late 2025) and several properties in the Wawa district (Echum and Hubcap).
