The collaboration will initially focus on developing quantum-enhanced pipelines to accelerate resistance breeding against major crop diseases, such as rice blast. By leveraging quantum and supercomputing, the partnership aims to significantly speed up the discovery and development of disease-resistant crops, which is vital for protecting global food supplies and supporting the CGIAR Genetic Innovation Initiative. Training programs: SuperQ will train the alliance, CGIAR and its partner teams through workshops and accelerator programs to build their skills in applying quantum computing to their research. Joint research pilots: The collaboration will begin with a pilot project focused on rice blast resistance before scaling to other crops within the CGIAR network.
